Our project develops the academic traditions of the State Institute of Art Studies—formerly the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Art Studies (1976–1992). The Institute is a leading global research center for European and Asian music studies. The scientific principles laid down by B.V. Asafiev (1884-1949), Yu.V. Keldysh (1907-1995), M.E. Tarakanov (1928-1996), M.G. Aranovsky (1928-2009) and others created the conditions for the emergence of a unique community that preserves the best achievements of pre-revolutionary and Soviet musicology and develops them in collaboration with representatives of global humanities schools.
