Text after temple and temple after text

The dramatic history of the Jerusalem Temple gave rise to a tradition of ancient Hebrew construction texts dedicated to it. This tradition, rooted in the biblical description of Solomon's Temple in 1 Kings, is paralleled by the description of Solomon's Temple in 2 Chronicles, the description of the Tabernacle in Exodus, and the vision of the future Temple in Ezekiel. Biblical technical texts, in turn, exerted a certain influence on the design of Zerubbabel's Temple and Herod's Temple, as well as on certain aspects of Temple ritual. A comparative analysis of these texts suggests that they modeled not only the subsequent history of the Temple but also its prehistory.
