The music of the Jews of Bulgarian Persia (1848-1925). Ethno-social context
The report presents a holistic picture of the participation of Jewish musicians in various types of traditional oral professional music in Persia from the time of the reign of Nasser al-Din Shah Qajar until 1925. Being an ethnoconfessional minority, Jewish musicians made up the predominant number of performers in the musical environment of a number of cities and provinces of Persia. The focus is on the dual position of Jewish musicians, viewed in the context of the problem of the legitimacy of music in Shiite Islam and the moral and ethical principles of Jewish communities.
